Primary Care

Much of the primary and secondary prevention of stroke and the longer term care and rehabilitation takes place in primary care settings, but much of the evidence base is derived from studies which recruit patients from in-patient or secondary care settings.

The aim of the primary care clinical study group is to stimulate and support primary-care based research across the whole patient pathway to include primary prevention, acute care, rehabilitation, secondary prevention and long term care and support.

As this is the only clinical study group that is based around a site of care, it will work closely with the other clinical study groups, particularly rehabilitation and prevention.

The first steps will be to assess the current research activity in stroke in primary care and identify the gaps with the purpose of promoting research to address these gaps.
