Freedom of Information
From January 2005, subject to certain exemptions, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives a general right of access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities.
Additionally, commencing February 29th 2004, the University of Newcastle upon Tyne is required to produce and maintain a publication scheme that will allow for easy public access to the information that it publishes. The scheme will set out the classes of information, the format(s) in which the information is available and details of any charges.
The University has adopted the model publication scheme developed for the Higher Education sector and is committed to publishing the information it describes.
When the general right of access comes into force, the University will be required to deal with individual requests for information and from that date you will be able make a request for information, which must be in writing and contain details both of you (the applicant) and the information sought.
